THE FOURTH ARAB IMPACT CRATERING AND ASTROGEOLOGY CONFERENCE

The USTHB (Faculty of the Earth sciences, FSTGAT)  in partnership with DGRSDT, the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences (AUASS), the Planetary Sciences section of the Arabian Géociences Union (AGU) and the Algerian Chapter of the Young Earth Scientists Network (YESdz), co-organized the 4th ARAB IMPACT CRATERING AND ASTROGEOLOGY CONFERENCE. The Opening Ceremony of this conference took place on 09th, April 2017 at USTHB university .  More than 25 presentations and posters were given by researchers and Phd students in the field of imapct cratering and astrogeology on 9th April. The field excursion was performed in the impact crater of MAADNA (TALEMZANE) located in Hassi Dellaa (South of Laghouat) on 10th, April 2017.

This conference comes after successful meetings of the third AICAC, 2014 and the 77th Annual Meeting of the Meteoritical Society, 2014 hosted by the Faculty of Sciences, Casablanca Hassan II University, Morocco.

This conference will aim primarily at establishing cooperation between different groups specialized in the field of impact cratering, meteorites, Astrogeology and researchers from the Middle East and North Africa considered among the richest part of the world in impact craters and meteorite collection. The conference provides opportunities for Arab researchers to meet other experts of the analysis of terrestrial impact structures and meteorite collections and will promote exchanges about the most advanced techniques for the characterization of shocked material. The conference allows increasing awareness particularly in Arab countries, where meteorites and impact craters are relatively abundant. The objectives are to stimulate the meticulous documentation concerning impact craters, to promote new research in Astrogeology and Meteoritics, and to enhance interest among universities and scientific institutions in the Arabic countries.
